Museum of Ventura County update for June 5 — Concert at the Ag Friday + Munch Returns, First Friday and more!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Actual Reality opening reception this past Saturday. The turnout was fantastic!
If you didn’t have the opportunity to see Carlos Grasso and Peter Fox’s exhibit, be sure to visit the Museum this week! Actual Reality challenges the viewer to experience what is real and not real through a series of tangible, three-dimensional art (plus a whole immersive room experience) that is intended to stimulate and provoke an appreciation for reality.
In support of the exhibit Women Beyond Borders, The Rubicon Theatre hosted a Community Box Making event at the Museum over the weekend. Visitors had the opportunity to design and create their very own boxes, using a variety of supplied crafts and trinkets.
This extraordinary exhibition displays boxes created by women throughout the world from Women Beyond Borders touring collection, along with historical information and video history of the Women Without Borders journey. The exhibit has been extended a few weeks to July 14, 2019!
MUNCH returns to the Museum of Ventura County on Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.! The Ventura Artist Union Jam Band will be performing and boxed lunches will be available for purchase from Desserts to Die For.
Pack a lunch and join us in the Museum’s Courtyard or Plaza every 3rd Thursday of the month for live music. Museum admission is free during this time, so you can also explore
the galleries.
The Agriculture Museum is thrilled to announce the upcoming exhibits In the Fields of the North / En los Campos del Norte andFarming Youth. Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, June 15 from 12 p.m. to
2 p.m. at the Agriculture Museum in Santa Paula.
In the Fields of the North / En los Campos del Norte features the photojournalist David Bacon’s evocative, powerful photographs alongside moving oral narratives from migrant farm workers. The exhibition, fully translated into both English and Spanish, gives viewers a reality check on the food they eat and the lives of the people who
harvest it.
Photographer, journalist, and activist David Bacon has spent over three decades documenting the lives of migrant workers, building upon his previous work as a union organizer. The exhibition is based upon the book of the same name, recently published by University of California Press.
As Kent Wong, Director of the UCLA Labor Center, writes, “Bacon captures the humanity of workers who work each day in demanding physical labor, in the hot sun, and for poverty wages. This is one of the few publications that captures the authentic stories of California farm workers, through their own voices and with the images of their living and working conditions.”
