VENTURA COUNTY — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County (BBSVC), the youth mentoring organization which facilitates more than 1,500 one-to-one relationships annually, hosted its 46th-annual Golf Classic on April 29 at The Saticoy Club in Somis, CA. Through sponsorships, donations, auctions and more, the tournament raised over $200,000.
Los Angeles Kings Team Ambassador and Hockey Hall of Famer, Bob Miller, hosted the BBSVC Golf Classic for the first time and delivered the event’s keynote speech. Says Miller, “I had a really good time being at the Golf Classic and meeting so many fans. I am proud to be a resident of Ventura County, especially after hearing from the young people here tonight. Knowing that there’s an organization that is helping improve school performance, self- esteem and career paths because of a caring adult is really something else.”
The evening portion included hearing from five different program youth who all touched on different topics on how the program has impacted their lives for the better. “I was walking down a wrong path and then I discovered Big Brothers Big Sisters and it changed everything. I’m better equipped at making quality friends, and I know I have a support system that cares for me when things get rough. I’ve been shown some new things like a college campus and a recording studio. I don’t know where I would be without this program” said one Little Brother before guests gave a standing ovation.
This year also included access and vouchers to the Travis Mathew Experience, lunch by Stonefire Grill, vendors who delivered fun and refreshments across the course, silent and live auctions, as well as a dinner and award ceremony. The event was presented by Select, which has been the event’s celebrated Title Sponsor for 18 years.
Funds generated from the day will support growth and the professional support of BBSVC’s one-to-one mentoring and school site programs throughout the county.
BBSVC would like to extend special thanks to the event chairs Kathy Sottile and Adam Hammer, the event committee, Mike Van der Goes (General Manager) and his team at The Saticoy Club, and the many sponsors and guests who help shape BBSVC’s Golf Classic to be bigger and better each year.
