Registration Deadline Extended: September 13.The Museum of Ventura County announces its firstPortrait Drawing Course. The course will be a six week class held on Monday evenings, 6 pm to 8 pm from September 17 through October 22, 2018. Ryan Carr, local Ventura County artist and the Museum’s first Artist in Residence will offer a detailed instruction into the various techniques and methods used to create portraiture. There is a class limit of 25 people, to ensure quality instruction and feedback time for participants. The classes will be relaxed and friendly and, although the course is appropriate for beginners, all levels are encouraged to participate. Cost for the course is $130 for members; $145 for non-members. Register here by September 13th.
Grab lunch and head over to the Museum, every Thursday between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., for music and free entry to the galleries. Enjoy your lunch break in one of our colorful patio chairs while you listen to local musicians, then take a stroll through the museum’s rotating exhibits.

You are invited to an Opening Reception for our new pop-up exhibit featuring Ventura County’s birds at The Agriculture Museum on September 15 at 1 p.m. An interactive, multi-sensory exhibit, Tweet This! features special guest appearances from the Ojai Raptor Center and opportunities to compare yourself to the world’s largest and smallest birds as featured in life-sized paintings by Ventura’s Artist, MB Hanrahan. Children of all ages are are encouraged to come. Admission is free for members, $5 for nonmembers.
The Agriculture Museum will present local Santa Paula author, Kathleen Contreras’ book launch event Sunday, September 16 from 1:00-3:00 pm. Contreras’ book,Harvesting Friends, is a bilingual tale that teaches compassion, cooperation and companionship through gardening. The event is free to the community.
The Museum of Ventura County is hosting a panel discussion on Restoring Main Street Vitality in the wake of the Thomas Fire on September 18, 2018 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at theMuseum. The discussion will be moderated by Kathleen Schafer, and the panelists will be Mayor Neal Andrews from Ventura, Councilmembers William Weirick from Ojai and John Proctor from Santa Paula. Join local artist-in-residence, Ryan Carr, on September 18 at 6 p.m. at Ventura Coast Brewery, where you will draw live, clothed models. Bring your drawing pads, charcoal, pencils, pastels, whatever your favorite medium! Grab a friend and get creative at Ventura Coast Brewery. Some instruction provided at the Museum session. Ventura Coast Brewery is located at 76 S. Oak Street, Downtown Ventura. All skill levels welcome. The event is free and open to the public.
The Agriculture Museum presents an afternoon of story-telling through song September 22 from noon – 5 pm. Produced in conjunction with local artist, musician and founder of De Colores Music and the De Colores Art Show, Xavier Montes, theFolk Music Festival will feature Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Misa Della alongside three original songwriters and musicians from Ventura County: J. Peter Boles, Donna Lynn Caskey and Paul Belgum. The Agriculture Museum is located at 926 Railroad Ave.in Santa Paula. The event is free and open to the public.
The Museum of Ventura County and the Ventura Film Society will co-present the Museum Matinee Series, as part of the exhibit ‘At Table: The Business of Food and Community’. The first in the series is City of Gold, a documentary about Pulitzer Prize-winning, Los Angeles food critic, Jonathan Gold as he explores the cultural, historical, economical and diversity of Los Angeles’ culinary culture will be shown on Sept. 23 at 1 pm. A concession will available with boxed candy, bagged popcorn, soft drinks, beer and wine for purchase. Admission is $5 for members (both Museum members and Film Society members) and $10 for non-members. The film will be shown in the Museum’s Smith Pavilion, 100 E. Main Street, Ventura.
Our newest exhibit on display at the Museum of Ventura County now through November 25 has received resounding applause from the community and in the mediaMuseum Curator Anna Bermudez, explores and celebrates the cultural impact of immigration, agriculture, and the love of food in three exhibits: Rise Up! Bakeries and Panaderias in Ventura County, You Ate What? andThe Kitchen Table. At Table also includes Museum’s archival photos of Ventura County’s agricultural history, past iconic restaurants, food-related businesses and multicultural dining traditions.
Special events will occur throughout the run of the exhibit, including a panel discussion featuring notable food writers, a farm-to-table dinner event and a book talk by a noted local food author. Dates and details will be made available at venturamuseum.org.
