The Museum of Ventura County will host an opening reception, 5:30 to 8 p.m., Aug. 30, for “At Table: The Business of Food and Community,” an exhibit that explores and celebrates the cultural impact of immigration through a shared love of food. The Opening reception is sponsored by Cafe’ Zack, cost is $5 for members, $10 for nonmembers. visitventuramuseum.org or call 805-653-0323. The opening is in conjunction with the Ventura Chamber’s TASTE event which includes free admission to the Museum opening. TASTE tickets are available by calling 805-643-7222 or visiting venturachamber.com/taste2018. Museum members purchasing tickets for TASTE can use promo code Museum18 to receive the chamber member discount.
Grab lunch and head over to theMuseum, every Thursday between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., for music and free entry to the galleries. Enjoy your lunch break in one of our colorful patio chairs while you listen to local musicians, then take a stroll through the museum’s rotating exhibits.

September 2 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Focus on the Masters ‘Learning to See’ Outreach invites museum-goers to play with their food. Free First Sunday at the Museum of Ventura County, will feature free admission all day and free art activities from noon to 2 p.m. Kids and adults will learn about natural pigments by using a variety of fruits, vegetables, leaves and flowers as paint to create lively, colorful still-life artwork. No experience necessary. While Free First Sunday offers free admission at both the Ventura and Santa Paula museum locations, the free art activities will take place only at the Ventura museum location.
September 3 from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm
The 6th annual Vintage Tractor Fair and Kid’s Fun Zone at the Agriculture Museum immediately follow Santa Paula’s Labor Day Parade. Get close-up and personal with the Topa Topa Flywheelers club members’ rare and unique vintage tractors. Enjoy an afternoon of live music, food trucks, petting zoo, tractor and fair-themed activities and crafts for all ages. Admission is free for the Vintage Tractor Fair and to the museum, $5 for Kids fun Zone (parents are free).

Join the local artist Ryan Carr at the Museum of Ventura Countywhere you will draw live, clothed models. Bring your drawing pads, charcoal, pencils, pastels, whatever your favorite medium! Grab a friend and get creative at the Museum. All skill levels welcome. Some instruction provided at the Museum session.

Award-winning author and water activist, Florencia Ramirez, will share stories of America’s food producers who grow food with less water from her book Eat Less Water. Ms. Ramirez sheds light on the seldom-seen connection between dwindling water resources and the choices we make when shopping for groceries for our families and offers a solution that begins in the kitchen. Part of the Museum’s Speaking of Ventura series, Florencia’s presentation will be held at the Museum of Ventura County’s Agriculture Museum.

The Museum of Ventura County announces its first Portrait Drawing Course. The course will be a six week class held on Monday evenings, 6 pm to 8 pm from September 17 through October 22, 2018. Ryan Carr, local Ventura County artist and the Museum’s first Artist in Residence will offer a detailed instruction into the various techniques and methods used to create portraiture. There is a class limit of 25 people, to ensure quality instruction and feedback time for participants. The classes will be relaxed and friendly and, although the course is appropriate for beginners, all levels are encouraged to participate. Register here by September 10th.

The Agriculture Museum will present local Santa Paula author, Kathleen Contreras’ book launch event Sunday, September 16th from 1:00-3:00 pm. Contreras’ book, Harvesting Friends, is a bilingual tale that teaches compassion, cooperation and companionship through gardening. The event is free to the community.
September 18 at 1 p.m.
The Museum of Ventura County is hosting a panel discussion on Restoring Main Street Vitality in the wake of the Thomas Fire on September 18, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Museum. The discussion will be moderated by Kathleen Schafer, and the panelists will be Mayor Neal Andrews from Ventura, Councilmembers William Weirick from Ojai and John Proctor from Santa Paula.
