SANTA MARIA — Nearly 80 of CenCal Health’s newest members participated in the “Journey of Learning,” a family-focused health education event in Santa Maria.
As the health insurance provider for nearly 179,000 people in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, CenCal Health is dedicated to creating new types of outreach to engage access to healthcare and increase health education amongst members. On Saturday, January 20, CenCal Health sponsored its inaugural member engagement and outreach event at the Community Action Commission in Santa Maria. The “Journey of Learning” event welcomed nearly 80 of CenCal Health’s newest members, specifically families with children.
Throughout the day, members had the opportunity to learn about their health plan and how it affects their families. CenCal staff provided education and resources to assist members in learning how to be the best patients they can be. A creative passport approach helped guide families to visit the 16 different staffed stations representing CenCal Health’s variety of services including mental health programs, dental care, nurse advice line, transportation services, and pharmacy benefits. Local Community-based organizations also participated with resources for CenCal Health members. Guests also had the chance to win raffle prizes at the event.
“Navigating the healthcare system can be complicated, even for those of us that work in the health industry,” said Bob Freeman, CEO of CenCal Health. “Connecting and communicating face-to-face with our staff and local Community-based organizations was a clear success for members, and afforded our staff the ability to truly connect with our members and our mission.”
