Gold Coast Health Plan Helps Fund the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging’s Fall Prevention Program

Medi-Cal Plan Awards $50,000 to Local Health Care Agency

CAMARILLO — Gold Coast Health Plan has awarded $50,000 to the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging’s Fall Prevention Program through its Community Health Investments initiative. The award supports supervisor John C. Zaragoza and the county Board of Supervisors’ proclamation of September 22 to 28 as Fall Prevention Awareness Week.

The VCAAA and its fall prevention coalition partners are aware of the critical effects that falls have on the health of individuals, especially seniors. Serving the county’s 60-plus population and persons with disabilities, the program’s goal is to decrease recidivist falls from the current rate of 19 percent to 4 percent among participants, resulting in significant health care cost reductions.

“These are the types of programs that not only provide a significant impact to Gold Coast Health Plan members, but to our community as a whole,” said Dale Villani, GCHP’s chief executive officer. “The Plan is honored to help the VCAAA and its partners in addressing critical issues that relate to seniors in Ventura County.”

In addition to this grant, GCHP awarded $1.5 million to 16 organizations throughout Ventura County in June for programs that focused on access to health care, food and housing.

About Gold Coast Health Plan: Gold Coast Health Plan is an independent public entity created by a Ventura County ordinance and authorized through Federal Legislation. GCHP is not a county agency. The county Board of Supervisors approved implementation of a County Organized Health System (COHS) model, transitioning from fee-for-service Medi-Cal to managed care on June 2, 2009. The purpose of GCHP is to serve Medi-Cal beneficiaries, enhance the quality of healthcare, provide greater access, improve service and provide choice. The plan provides health benefits to nearly 203,000 beneficiaries throughout the county. To learn more about GCHP, visit: www.goldcoasthealthplan.org.
