GROWING THE COLLECTION
Another superb watercolor painting has been donated to the collection by an artist whose richly colored works are on exhibit in Soluble Power through August 20th.
Lily Buds– donated by the artist Gail Faulkner
Contemporary realist, Gail Faulkner, has gifted a work painted this year of exquisitely pristine, white lily buds laid as if casually on a ceramic bowl so their closed petals and green leaves cascade nearly off a sideboard like a floral waterfall. Much is a careful tip and re-balance here. Cool whites, greens and blue are made enriched and dramatic by being set upon warm brown wood and punctuated by orange persimmons. Looking closer the peaceful scene has an implied movement should those propped persimmons being to roll. Even closer and the huger surprise is her depth color and reflections are not done with oil paint like an Old Master painting but with watercolor.
Gail Faulkner loves the challenge of detail and painting what she finds beautiful to give viewers the same pleasure. Retiring from the medical field, Faulkner attended the Philadelphia College of Art and since settling in Ventura has won first place in the 2008 California Gold Coast Watercolor Society exhibit and multiple first place awards in the Santa Paula Society of the Arts Shows between 2008-2011 along with the 2009 and 2019 Douglas Shively Award of Excellence. Tartaglia Fine
Art in Ojai represents her work.
