Mexican Consulate offering free Spanish-language textbooks

The government of México is presenting its “The 2011 Free Spanish Textbooks Program” to local educators and educational institutions, the Mexican Consulate in Oxnard reported this week.

“This is a important tool for educators who are looking to improve their relationship with their Spanish speaking students,” consulate officials reported.

The program includes a free set of 50 books, which includes all the Spanish textbooks that are used to teach in all the elementary schools in México (Spanish, math, geography, history, etc.), and reading material targeted at all levels of Spanish understanding (kindergarden, elementary, middle school etc.), the consulate reported.

These sets of books can only be obtained by education-related institutions such as schools, school districts, community centers and public libraries which serve children and young adults of Mexican descent or citizenship, as well as the community in general.

The deadline is Feb. 28.
