OXNARD — The exhibit of “On the Margin / Luchando Contra El Olvido” by CAM Studio Guest Artist Antonio Arredondo Juarez will be presented through Feb. 26 at the Carnegie Art Museum, 329 N. Fifth St., Oxnard.
Antonio Arredondo Juarez was born in Villa Guerrero, Jalisco, Mexico. A graduate of California State University, Channel Islands, he received a Bachelor’s degree in Communication with an emphasis in Business and Nonprofit.
Best known for his series, Cajas de Cartón, the subjects of his work bring otherwise marginalized groups of people into the forefront of social, political and cultural justice. Arredondo pays homage to the campesino, restoring the dignity of these invisible people to the viewer.
Through the medium of photography, Arredondo takes the viewer on a journey of what society has deemed unworthy of equality and respect. He attempts to rectify the injustice and dehumanization placed on thecampesino, the unsung hero that despite low wages and poor working conditions, continue picking and packaging the food so many people take for granted.
Arredondo’s stark black and white images frame the perspective for the viewer by allowing him or her to internally explore a spectrum of emotions, providing an opportunity to connect with the subject matter and provide an insight into the harsh reality of life in the fields.
Arredondo’s art strives to break down the barriers of society and the media so individuals can achieve their full potential. For his current work, the artist is creating frames that are customized to each photograph’s subject. Antonio Arredondo Juarez is based in Port Hueneme.
