Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County: BOWL FOR KIDS’ SAKE is Creating a BIG Experience for Littles!

VENTURA COUNTY — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County (BBSVC) is looking for teams and individuals to participate in the annual BOWL FOR KIDS’ SAKE fundraising event, to help support a BIG experience for program youth: by supporting Bowl For Kids’ Sake in 2017, the community will be providing the resources to bring nearly 150 program youth from Oxnard, Fillmore, and Santa Paula to experience a day full of fun, enrichment, and more!

While still including all of the community bowling fun that previous years’ participants have come to know and love, Bowl For Kids’ Sake 2017 will be focusing on creating a big experience for program youth – or “Littles”. The morning bowling time slot will be closed exclusively for nearly 150 Littles who will receive transportation from Oxnard, Santa Paula, and Fillmore, many of whom will be bowling for the very first time. Littles will be treated to breakfast, a youth motivational speaker presentation, and of course all of the traditional Bowl For Kids’ Sake games, prizes, and giveaways as they bowl.

After their bowling session, Littles will jump back on their buses to head to California State University, Channel Islands, where they will enjoy a S.T.E.A.M. program created by the university’s Chemistry Club: there will be a science fair, a panel presentation by undergraduate students about being prepared to attend college, a tour of the university campus, and so much more.

“This will be a first for many of the children in our programs,” says event organizer Rene’ Solem. “From bowling to stepping foot onto a university campus. In many cases, these children will be the first in their family to graduate from high school and pursue a college degree! We are proud of them and are so excited to introduce Bowl For Kids’ Sake as a tool to support their educational enrichment.”

Bowling participants fundraise by registering online at bbsvc.org/BOWL, and may then raise donations from family, friends, coworkers, and through their social networks. Local businesses can also support the event through sponsorships, prize donations, or even sponsoring a program youth team to bowl on the day of the event.

The bowling party for fundraising participants will also take place at Harley’s Camarillo Bowl on Saturday, March 11. Multiple bowling times are available to celebrate the fundraising efforts of the participating teams and individuals, full of games, prizes, good food, and fun!

To register for BOWL FOR KIDS’ SAKE 2017, participants can sign up at bbsvc.org/BOWL, where they can make their personal fundraising page and begin collecting donations. Businesses and organizations interested in learning more about Bowl For Kids’ Sake or event sponsorship opportunities are encouraged to contact Rene’ Solem at rsolem@bbsvc.org or 805.484.2282.
