> The California Employment Development Department will present an “Employee or Independent Contractor Seminar” from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 7 at the EDD Tax Office, 4820 McGrath St., Suite 200, the organization reported. The seminar will include information on the common misconceptions about independent contractors, ways to combat payroll tax fraud, how to distinguish between employees and independent contractors and other information. > California Lutheran University will present the Entrepreneur Speaker Series program “Blue by Design: How Blue Microphone creates products that look inspiring and sound amazing” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8 at the Cal Lutheran Westlake Center, 31416 Agoura Road, Westlake Village.

Blue Microphones CEO and Cal Lutheran alum John Maier will share his thoughts on Blue’s product strategy, spotlighting its soon-to-be released Mo-Fi headphones. Based in Westlake Village, Blue Microphones was founded in 1995 with the belief that technical innovation and cutting-edge design can combine to create a family of audio tools that not only look inspiring but sound like nothing else on the planet. > The Martin V. Smith School of Business and Economics at CSU Channel Islands will present Marty Albertson, chairman of Guitar Center Inc. from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 at Malibu Hall 100. Albertson joined Guitar Center as a salesperson and has held various positions of increasing responsibility, serving as advertising director, national sales manager and vice president of sales and marketing. In 2004, he became chairman and CEO. He retired in 2010, but remains as non-executive chairman of the board. The event is free of charge and includes a free lunch. Smith School of Business and Economics at CSU Channel Islands will present author and speaker Kelsey Timmerman from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 at Malibu Hall 100.  Fueled by passion and curiosity, Timmerman tells the story of the items we often take for granted and how they connect us to the world as global and local citizens, the university reported in a media release. His latest book, “Where Am I Eating?” (2013), confronted slavery in the Ivory Coast cocoa industry and explored Fair Trade coffee farming in Colombia, as he uncovered the realities of the global food industry that is supporting our “all-American” diet.
