Comité Cultural Mexicano introduces Fiestas Patrias contestants. Announces scheduled events

The Comité Cultural Mexicano introduced the Fiestas Patrias 2013 contestants on July 26, 2013 at Casa Lopez Mexican Restaurant in Oxnard.

Attending the event and serving as judges were Mexican Consul Ana Berenice Díaz Ceballos Parada, Vida Newspaper Publisher Manuel Munoz and representatives from La M 103.7 FM radio.

Contestants include Daisy Ramires, representing Aguascalientes; Emely Baez (Estado de México); Jocelyn González (Michoacán); Estephanie Vázquez (Distrito Federal); Martha Alicia Lona (Guanajuato); Marina Zetina (Sinaloa); Erica Reyes (Zacatecas); and Brenda Topete (Jalisco).

Scheduled events include:

  • The traditional costume contest (“Certamen Señorita Fiestas Patrias Traje Típico“) will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25 at Pacifica High School, 600 E. Gonzalez Road, Oxnard. There is a suggested donation of $5.
  • The gala dinner and crowing of the Fiestas Patrias queen (“Cena-Gala de Coronación“) will be held from 5:30 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Ventura Beach Marriott Hotel, 2055 E. Harbor Blvd., Ventura. There is a suggested donation of $60.
  • The Fiesta in the Plaza (“Fiesta en la Palcita de Oxnard”) will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 in downtown Oxnard.
  • The Fiestas Patrias 2013 parade (“Desfile Commemorativo“) will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 on C Street in downtown Oxnard.
  • The traditional Cry for Independence (“Grito de Independencia“) will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 at Plaza Park in downtown Oxnard.
