El Departamento de Salud Pública de California comparte unos consejos para celebrar de manera segura el Día de los Muertos.
El COVID-19 continúa representando un riesgo severo para las comunidades y requiere que todos los californianos sigan las precauciones necesarias a la luz de este riesgo continuo.
Algunas de las actividades tradicionales de las fiestas promueven la congregación y la mezcla de varios grupos familiares, lo que aumenta el riesgo de transmitir el COVID-19. Bilingual report — Ventura County Public Works Agency completes phase two of the Potrero Road Bike Lane Project
The Ventura County Public Works Agency’s Roads and Transportation (VCPWA-RT) celebrated the completion of both project phases of the Potrero Road Bike Lane Project with a ribbon cutting on Sept. 10 which was attended by Supervisor Parks as well as a select few members of the project due to Covid-19 restrictions.
As a part of the project, the first phase, which was completed in December 2019, consisted of widening from the intersection of Potrero Road and Trentwood Drive northbound towards bridge #231 for 1.3 miles to create Class II bike lanes on both sides of the road. It also restriped 0.6 miles to the Thousand Oaks city limit. The second phase of construction began in May 2020 and extended the widening another 1.5 miles to Hidden Valley Road. Phase 2 widened both sides of Bridge #231 and was completed last month.

he Ventura County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 1 approved the program design of the Farmworker Household Assistance Program, providing up to $250,000 in county general funds to match private donations made through the Ventura County Community Foundation.
The program aims to provide farmworkers financial relief from the impacts of COVID-19. Farmworkers may apply for this funding assistance from September 1 at 5 p.m. through September 30, 2020, at 11:59 p.m. at www.vchsa.org/FHAP.
Santa Maria Joint Unified School District Meal Program Changes
During the 1st Semester of Santa Maria Joint Union High School District’s Distance Learning, August 17, 2020 – December 18, 2020, the Food Service Department will provide walk-up and drive thru pick-up breakfast and lunch meal service at the student’s nearest comprehensive high school – Santa Maria, Pioneer Valley, and Ernest Righetti as well as at various locations throughout the community.
Please note that your student’s meal eligibility from the 2019-2020 school year will carryover into the 2020- 2021 school year through September 28, 2020. Please make sure you submit a new application either online at https://family.titank12.com/ or a paper application – available from food service staff, school community liaison’s office, school administration office and at the main District Office. If a new application is not received, effective September 29, 2020, students will need to pay for meals until a new application is processed and approved.
Santa Barbara First District Supervisor Das Williams — More on School Waivers and Rental Assistance Program
At yesterday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, we received an update on COVID-19 and the school waiver process. It is of great importance that we ensure there is enough testing capacity to safely allow TK-6 schools to reopen. In order to reopen schools in an equitable fashion, I am determined to make sure that public schools have the same access to testing as private schools, which likely have more funds to contract with private testing companies. To that end, the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department is reserving two hours per day for school districts at each of our county testing sites and have determined that there is some capacity at the local state-sponsored testing sites as well. According to the graph below, our 14-day average case rate is below the state case rate and we continue to observe an overall decline. However, that does not mean we can abandon the precautions that have gotten us here. It is crucial that we continue the same hygiene practices, wearing face coverings, and limiting gathering with those not in our households so that we can continue to make progress.

14 de agosto del 2020- El Distrito Escolar Unificado de Ventura (VUSD) comenzará las clases el martes 18 de agosto del 2020 utilizando un modelo de aprendizaje a distancia. Todos los estudiantes formarán parte del modelo WEAVE el cual permite una mezcla de herramientas y técnicas de aprendizaje para permitir una mayor interacción con los maestros, un mayor apoyo y una educación mejorada fuera del plantel escolar. Todos los distritos escolares del Condado de Ventura comenzarán con el aprendizaje a distancia durante el comienzo del semestre de otoño del 2020, sin embargo, la Mesa Directiva de Educación de VUSD decidió en julio que permanecerían en el aprendizaje a distancia hasta enero del 2021 para proporcionar estabilidad a los padres de familia. Ventura County beaches will be closed this holiday weekend from 5:00 a.m. on July 3 through July 6 at 5 a.m. to prevent crowding that results in the spread of COVID-19. To support this effort parking lots and restrooms will also be closed.

The Ventura County Complete Count Committee will lead a Census Caravan on Saturday, June 20. Las comunidades de California continúan enfocándose en detener la propagación de COVID-19 a través del distanciamiento social. Estos esfuerzos son prometedores, pero una consecuencia involuntaria ha sido una brecha cada vez mayor entre las personas con padecimientos y los proveedores de atención médica. El departamento de emergencias del Hospital de Santa Paula ha visto una disminución en el número total de visitas a la sala de emergencias. “Esto es de esperar, cuando las personas no están saliendo fuera de casa”, explica el Dr. Richard Rutherford, médico de emergencias y director de calidad y seguridad de Seaside Emergency Associates. “Pero también nos preocupa que algunos miembros de nuestra comunidad se queden en casa cuando realmente tienen una emergencia médica”. A algunas personas les preocupa ser una carga al hospital durante una pandemia. Otros temen que puedan infectarse con el virus COVID. “Hemos visto pacientes con ataques cardíacos, derrames cerebrales y otras enfermedades críticas que han esperado demasiado para visitar el hospital”, lamenta el Dr. Rutherford. Demorar la atención médica de estos eventos potencialmente mortales puede dificultar que el equipo del departamento de emergencias recupere la salud de los pacientes.
