Volunteers Needed for The Wall That Heals Exhibit This March

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Volunteers are needed to assist visitors at a memorial exhibit bearing the names of the more than 58,000 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam that visits San Luis Obispo this March.

The County of San Luis Obispo Veterans Services Office, the host of The Wall That Heals exhibit at the Madonna Meadows in San Luis Obispo, is looking for 106 volunteers to sign up at http://signup.com/go/TWTHSLO to work one four-hour shift between March 28 and April 1.

“The County of San Luis Obispo Veterans Services needs the help of the entire community for this event,” said Veterans Service Office Christopher L. Lopez. “As a volunteer for this event you will help provide a healing experience for our Vietnam veterans and their families, educate a new generation about how the conflict in Vietnam impacted our community, and honor our brothers and sisters who serve or have served in the armed forces.”

The Wall That Heals is an exhibit requiring volunteer coverage 24-hours-a-day starting at 4 p.m. on March 28 and ending at 2:30 p.m. on April 1. Volunteers are still needed for each shift during this period and veterans interested in volunteering, and who would be willing to work overnight shifts, are particularly desirable.

Volunteer training will be provided from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on March 28 at the Madonna Meadows. Volunteer duties may include standing along the exhibit for public assistance, directing visitors around the displays on the Education Center, assisting visitors in locating names on the exhibit, assisting visitors that would like to do a name rubbing, and providing handouts.

The County of San Luis Obispo Veterans Services Office invites our community to support the visit of The Wall That Heals by signing up as a volunteer at http://signup.com/go/TWTHSLO. For more information on this event, please visit www.slocounty.ca.gov.
