LOS OSOS — In recognition of NeighborWorks Week, held June 3-10, Peoples’ Self-Help Housing (PSHH) hosted a community service day on June 9 at South Bay Apartments in Los Osos. It was one of more than 200 events nationwide that gathered neighbors and volunteers to participate in community services projects.
South Bay Apartments residents, and PSHH volunteers, board and staff pulled weeds, planted native perennials, and spread mulch to beautify the property.
“Neighborworks Week is an opportunity for us to come together to give back to our community,” said John Fowler, PSHH President and CEO. “Our residents can be proud to come home to a good-looking place and be surrounded by neighbors who care.”
Each June during NeighborWorks Week, NeighborWorks America and its network of more than 240 organizations across the country mobilize tens of thousands of local volunteers, affordable housing organizations, neighbors, businesspeople, elected officials and other community leaders in a week of neighborhood change and awareness.
In 2016, students from PSHH’s College Club and their parents volunteered to work alongside families building their own homes in Atascadero through PSHH’s Self-Help Home Ownership Program during NeighborWorks Week.
