President’s Message

Dear Friends,

Less than a year removed from the devastation of the Thomas Fire, the Hill and Woolsey Fires feel all too familiar. The fires and the tragic Borderline mass shooting in Thousand Oaks have shaken us and have reminded us how vulnerable and connected we are.
During times of crises such as these, ordinary and extraordinary citizens step up to help each other. At United Way, we are grateful for all those who step up, but we’re especially thankful for our community’s first responders, who continue to serve us when we need them most.
Just hours after attending a vigil for the Borderline victims, the fires forced me to evacuate from my home. I was fortunate to be able to return home this week, but with images like the one below (taken from my own building), it continues to be a time of great uncertainty. My colleagues and I at United Way are praying for our community during this time of mourning and resiliency.
The wildfires have devastated over 110,000 acres in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. These natural disasters have greatly affected many hardworking community members who were already struggling to make ends meet and now must find a way to re-establish their lives.
