VENTURA — In an effort to provide support for victims of the Thomas Fire, Ventura College has created a donation site called the Ventura College Pirates Treasure Chest. The Pirates Treasure Chest is located at Guthrie Hall and will be open Tuesday, Dec. 12 and Wednesday, Dec. 13 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The treasure chest is both a place where donations can be made by the campus community and received by those affected by the Thomas Fire. Members of the campus community have already made sizable contributions with two U-Haul trucks full of donated groceries, clothes, supplies, and other goods.
Ventura College is using the donation site to provide services to those in need. On both days a personal counselor will be on site to speak with victims from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pizza will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thomas Fire Victims will also have the opportunity to sign-up for one month of free groceries through CalFresh, a statewide program intended to provide healthy and nutritious food options for those in need.
Despite Tuesday and Wednesday being the main donation days, the campus community is encouraged to continue to bring donations for the remainder of the week to provide support to those in need.
