Pioneer Valley High School students donating to Good Samaritan Shelter

SANTA MARIA — Students at PVHS will bring a touch of home to the Good Samaritan Shelter on Thursday, March 7th.

Carrying 75 hand-made pillows and containers of chicken tortilla soup, the students from PV’s Culinary Arts and Apparel Construction and Design programs will serve more than 150 residents. The menu, which will be presented at 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., also includes homemade rolls, salad and cookies.

“Going to the homeless shelter means a lot to me because not that long ago that was me at the shelter. This is something every high school student should do. It’s important to give back. Very humbling.” Alicia Lopez 12thgrade.

“Making a pillow for the homeless shelter is important to me because helping those in need is something I’m really proud to be a part of. I’m really excited to see their reactions when they receive their pillows, ”said Amanda Casares 11thgrade.

This is the third year of the community outreach, according to teachers Melissa Diaz and Jenn Montanez.

“Giving back to the community is an important part for any community member,’’ they said. “We strive to show our students the many resources that are available in our community and do our part to include community service opportunities for students to partake in. Giving back is really important to our students.’’
