OXNARD — The Oxnard Convention & Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Executive Director, Joshua Travers.
Travers brings a diverse background in program management, strategic planning and community engagement to the Bureau. Over the past two years, he has served as the Southern Nevada Recreation Program Lead for the Bureau of Land Management in Las Vegas where he was responsible for overseeing a $3.2 million budget. In this role, he provided leadership for Red Rock National Conservation area, the Bureau’s largest recreation program which serves more than 2 million visitors per year and is recognized internationally as a premier outdoor recreation destination. The position also included the management of more than 3 million acres of public land where he partnered with City, County, State and business leaders to better align the strategic priorities of the BLM with the needs of the local community.
Prior to his position in Las Vegas, Travers also served as Outdoor Recreation Planner for the Bureau of Land Management in Vale, Oregon, which spanned more than 5 million acres of public land where he built educational programs in collaboration with local school districts and partnered with several local agencies to further the economic diversification efforts for the region. Prior to that, Travers held multiple positions with the Forest Service throughout the state of Oregon.
Travers graduated from Oregon State University with a BS in Recreation Resource Management with an emphasis in Natural Resources. He has earned a number of leadership and professional certificates and has served his community through volunteerism.
“Josh has built a reputation as a leader who engages his community to develop and implement sound strategic programs that make a positive impact,” stated Steve Buenger, Chairman of the Board for the Oxnard Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to have him join our team and look forward to his leadership in advancing the Visitors Bureau forward through its programs and collaborative relationships,” he added. Travers will assume the position August 1.
