SIMI VALLEY — With Ventura County shifting back into the purple tier, which prohibits gyms from operating indoors, the Simi Valley Family YMCA is opening a new outdoor fitness center in the parking lot behind the facilities.
The approximately 3,000 square foot outdoor center is partially covered to protect from the elements and contains cardio and strength training equipment.
It was only last month that the Y’s indoor fitness center reopened after being closed since March. “We realized that we needed to be flexible so we could continue to offer workout opportunities to our members and the community regardless of the tier level,” says Erin Wimmer, Director of Healthy Living at the Simi Valley YMCA. “Since we do not know when the county will go back to a less restrictive level, an outdoor facility is a must. We’re fortunate that our location can accommodate the center without affecting parking.”
Equipment is spaced at least 12 feet apart. It is sanitized regularly by fitness staff. Hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. It is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Reservations are required. For more information or to a make reservation, call 583-5338.
