Museum of Ventura County update for May 31 — Actual Reality Opens Saturday + Community Box Making and Free First Sunday!

Join us at the Museum of Ventura County this Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the opening reception of Actual Reality. This new exhibit, created by local artists Carlos Grasso and Peter Fox, examines the present day disconnect between virtual and actual reality and challenges the viewer to experience what is real and not real through a series of tangible, three-dimensional art (plus a whole immersive room experience) that is intended to stimulate and provoke an appreciation for reality.
“The cyber-world has its advantages, but what are we losing if the ease of entering the virtual world supplants what we know as the hard work of living an actual life?” questions Fox.
Grasso and Fox both utilize diverse found objects as ingredients in their art. Grasso considers hand-cut shredded pieces of canvas, rusty sheets of metal, or scraps of wood, the ‘blood and bones’ of his creations. Fox adds the element of humor to help us navigate the ‘complex absurdity of … existence’.
Admission to the opening reception is $5 for members of the Museum, $10 for non-members.
The Museum of Ventura County is located at 100 E Main St., Ventura. For more information,

Free First Sunday
at the Museum!
Join us at the Museum for Free First Sunday on June 2, 2019 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.!
Inspired by the bold painting collages of Carlos Grasso, Focus on the Masters “Learning To See” outreach will guide you through a creative mixed media experience. You may choose from a buffet full of common and unexpected art materials to draw, paint, slice and dice, shred and build to transform a 2-dimensional base into a 3-dimensional expression of your own Actual Reality.
All ages are welcome, and no experience is necessary! Remember, Museum admission is free all day! We hope to see you.
