Friday, April 23

11:00 a.m. – Heirloom corn tortilla demo with Sweet Wheel Farms
Learn about heirloom corn and why these traditional varieties are important to our local food system. Leslie Person Ryan and Giselda Ortiz of Sweet Wheel Farms will walk you through the traditional way to make the very best corn tortillas.

11:30 a.m. – SBCFAN Discussions and Working Groups
Building a more resilient food system requires that all of us work together. Learn how you can connect and align with other food system actors to activate a food system project. Read more about SBCFAN Working Groups.

5:30 p.m. – 20 questions Edible Santa Barbara happy hour
Bring your beverage of choice and join Edible Santa Barbara publisher Krista Harris as she asks writer and cookbook author Pascale Beale as many questions as possible in this light-hearted and thought-provoking interview.

6:00 p.m. – Networking happy hour: nutrition education
Join SBCFAN’s Kayla Mallari, RDN, Susan Liles, RD, Emma Malina, Lacey Baldiviez, PhD and Lauren Thomas, RDN, as they discuss nutrition education efforts in Santa Barbara County and why whole foods farm-to-table nutrition is critical to public health, food justice, and building a more resilient food system.

Saturday, April 24

11:00 a.m. – Live from the Santa Barbara Certified Farmers Market
Join SBCFAN’s Katie Hershfelt and Santa Barbara Certified Farmers Market Association’s Sam Edelman as they introduce you to farmers – and the unique food they grow – from around the County.

5:30 p.m. – Networking happy hour: cooperative movements
Join Farmers Nate Siemens and Melissa Sorongon to discuss cooperative movements and the critical role they play in building food system resilience. Bring a beverage and mingle with farmers, foodies, and food system actors.

6:00 p.m. – SBCFAN happy hour: food system trivia
Grab your favorite beverage and join the SBCFAN team for food system trivia – the perfect way to close out Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival.

The Pesticide Free Soil Project is an environmental justice initiative led by young people in Oxnard to build soil, increase access to good food, and uplift the links between human and ecological health. Watch live on the main stage.

In this better world series hosted by LOACOM, Gregory Landau will discuss how Regen Network incentivizes regenerative land use practices, restores ecosystems and reverses climate change. Watch live on the main stage.

What is the history of ecological land stewardship in this region and how can our agricultural and natural lands build climate resilience? Hosted by the League of Women Voters, forum presenters include Chumash elder Julie Tumamait-Stenslie, climate and agriculture field organizer Tessa Salzman, UCSB Bren graduate student Minnie Ringland, and sustainable fisheries manager Blake Stok.
