Guest contribution — American Immigration Council — This Week in Immigration

Biden makes critical last-minute change to help combat USCIS backlogs. More options available. Immigrant farmworkers make our holiday meals possible

ALSO SEE FROM THIS WEEK:

Hello,

The holidays wouldn’t be the same without a warm, hearty meal shared with loved ones. Let’s take a moment to reflect on the people who make our holiday feasts possible – immigrant farmworkers.

More than half of the individuals who harvest the fruits and vegetables that nourish us are immigrant workers, often enduring long hours under challenging conditions. Immigrant workers are the backbone of our nation’s food supply.

This holiday season, I invite you to help protect the workers who make your meals possible.

GIVE NOW

Nearly 25% of the food supply chain workforce are undocumented—all at risk under President-elect Trump’s mass deportation plan.

Without immigrants, the U.S. would struggle to produce enough food. And removing such a significant portion of our labor force could disrupt supply chains, drastically increase food prices, and hurt communities that rely on agriculture. And that’s even before considering the devastating human cost of families being torn apart.

Your gift will make a difference!

Your gift will make a difference and help the American Immigration Council fight mass deportation and defend the rights of all immigrants who help support our country.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Robbins
Executive Director

P.S. This holiday season, as we gather with loved ones, let’s honor the hard work and sacrifices of immigrant farmworkers who make our meals possible. Every dollar brings us closer to our $100,000 year-end goal, supporting the rights and dignity of the farmworkers who sustain us.

Hello,

Bill, a retiree from California, didn’t know much about the asylum process. That was, until he and his church group decided to help an Afghan family fleeing violence in their home country. Soon, Bill wrote in Religion News Service, he “gained the education of a lifetime.”

At the American Immigration Council, we help people like Bill Lawrence tell personal stories that show truthful, thoughtful, and empathetic perspectives on immigration. Your support helps us combat harmful disinformation and tell more stories like Bill’s!

Bill’s experience meeting Nazir and his family changed his entire outlook. Nazir had assisted the U.S. military with evacuations from Afghanistan. He’d been promised a lifeline out, but he was ultimately left behind.

After finally making it to the United States, Bill and his church stepped up and offered support while Nazir’s asylum application was pending.

“Our team cannot fix all our immigration challenges,” Bill wrote. “But we can make a difference by helping one family. We’re glad we did.”

After sharing his story, Bill told us that his piece touched more people than he could have imagined. He was even invited to speak at his church to raise awareness about the struggles asylum seekers face.

“It didn’t seem to matter which political side they were on,” Bill said. “They saw the human side of the issue.”

This is why we do this work. And you can help us uplift more stories like Bill’s. Through storytelling, we can humanize the immigration debate and bring those stories to a wider audience.

To counter negative narratives and misinformation about immigrants, we need your help. Your generous gift before December 31st allows us to change the conversation and uplift true, positive stories like that of Bill and Nazir.

Let us continue to approach immigration not with fear and misunderstanding, but by embracing the human side of the issue.?Sincerely,

Jeremy Robbins
Executive Director
