VENTURA — Cal State Channel Islands (CSUCI) announced that its Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering program has received accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), the global gold standard for quality in STEM education.
This achievement affirms CSUCI’s commitment to delivering rigorous, industry-aligned engineering education and ensures that graduates are fully prepared to meet the demands of today’s global workforce.
“Receiving ABET accreditation is a significant milestone for our institution and a testament to the dedication of our faculty, staff, and students,” said Interim Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences Philip Hampton. “It validates the strength of our Mechatronics Engineering curriculum and enhances the value of a CSUCI degree for employers and graduate schools alike.”
Mechatronics Engineering combines mechanical, electrical, computer, and control engineering into an interdisciplinary field that drives innovation in robotics, automation, and advanced manufacturing. The ABET review process evaluated the program against several criteria, including:
- Student learning outcomes and continuous improvement
- Curriculum rigor and relevance
- Faculty expertise and qualifications
- Facilities and institutional support
The multi-year accreditation process included a comprehensive self-study, assessment of student learning outcomes, a site visit by ABET evaluators, and a detailed program review. Accreditation is granted for six years and underscores the program’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
Benefits for students in CSUCI’s ABET-accredited Mechatronics Engineering program include:
- Enhanced career opportunities and employer recognition
- Eligibility to pursue licensure as Professional Engineers (PE)
- Greater access to competitive graduate programs worldwide
- Assurance of a curriculum that meets internationally recognized standards
ABET is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that accredits college and university programs in applied and natural sciences, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. With more than 4,500 accredited programs in 41 countries, ABET accreditation ensures that graduates are ready to enter the workforce and make meaningful contributions to their professions.
