WESTLAKE VILLAGE — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Conejo Valley (BGCCGV) recently benefitted from the Sam Querrey Classic hosted by the North Ranch Country Club in Thousand Oaks.
The event included live ball sessions with Sam Querrey, ranked 65 in men’s singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals. Guests were also treated to an exhibition match between Querrey and Steven Johnson, a top collegiate tennis player hailing from USC. Johnson won the NCAA Men’s Singles Championship in his junior and senior seasons and was part of a Trojan team that won four consecutive NCAA Championships.
A Boys & Girls Club member of the Dr. Richard Grossman Club in Calabasas, Victoria Jivkova, 8 years old, also shares a passion for tennis and served as the ball girl for the exhibition match.
“Being invited to the Sam Querrey Classic tennis event was amazing because I got to represent the Boys & Girls Clubs,” stated Victoria Jivkova. “I’ve been going to the Grossman Club for 4 years now and I’m so happy I got to meet a professional tennis player for the first time since I’ve been playing tennis starting at 5 years old,” she continued. “It was very inspiring, motivational and I know if you work hard your dreams can come true,” she continued. “I hope one day I can have my own tennis event to give back to Boys & Girls Club”, she added.
In addition to the matches, guests enjoyed an array of food in a picturesque setting. The event raised $14,000 for the BGCCGV.
