SANTA PAULA — The City of Santa Paula is excited to begin its annual celebration of Arbor Day this March! The City is planning a month of celebration with fun-filled events that promote tree planting efforts throughout the community. The City invites residents to “Plant a Tree, Be a Hero” and participate in the upcoming ceremonies.
“Arbor Day is an opportunity for us to come together as a community and celebrate the vital role trees play in our environment, our health and our daily lives,” said Parks and Recreation Director Greg Barnes. “We are proud to be hosting a month-long celebration of Arbor Day this March and invite everyone to join us in planting, learning about and appreciating the beauty and benefits of trees.”
Kicking off the celebration, the City Council will issue a proclamation recognizing Arbor Day at its regular meeting on March 1. Following the recognition, the City and Santa Paula Unified School District will host an Arbor Day Ceremony at Barbara Webster Elementary on March 14 at 10:30 a.m. The community is invited to attend. Two fifth-grade classes will participate in the ceremony and learn about the positive effects trees can have on urban environments.
The festivities will continue on March 18 with the Arbor Day Community Workshops and Tree- Give-Away Event from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Following the theme of “Plant a Tree, Be a Hero,” this event will emphasize the City’s commitment to growing the urban forest and improving the lives of Santa Paula residents through meaningful action. The day will begin with light breakfast refreshments followed by three workshops:
- 9 a.m. – Planting Trees 101 presented by America in Bloom
- 9:45 a.m. – Tree Pests & Household Remedies presented by International Environmental Corporation Arborist
- 10:30 a.m. – Grafting a Fruit Cocktail Tree presented by Brian’s Orchard Youth Alliance
After the workshops, a tree-giveaway will take place at 11 a.m. Tree species available for pickup include lemon, plum, dwarf jacaranda and crape myrtle. Only 100 trees will be available, so interested residents are encouraged to register as soon as possible by calling the Parks & Recreation Department at 805-933-4226 ext. 350 or emailing nunzueta@spcity.org

SANTA PAULA – – ¡La Ciudad de Santa Paula esta? emocionada de comenzar su celebracio?n anual del Di?a del A?rbol este marzo! La Ciudad esta? planeando un mes de celebracio?n con eventos llenos de diversio?n que promuevan los esfuerzos de plantacio?n de a?rboles en toda la comunidad. La Ciudad invita a los residentes a “Plantar un a?rbol, ser un he?roe” y participar en las pro?ximas ceremonias.
“El Di?a del A?rbol es una oportunidad para que nos unamos como comunidad y celebremos el papel vital que juegan los a?rboles en nuestro medio ambiente, nuestra salud y nuestra vida diaria”, dijo el Director de Parques y Recreacio?n, Greg Barnes. “Estamos orgullosos de ser anfitriones de un mes -larga celebracio?n del Di?a del A?rbol este marzo e invitamos a todos a unirse a nosotros para plantar, aprender y apreciar la belleza y los beneficios de los a?rboles”.
Para dar inicio a la celebracio?n, el Concejo Municipal emitira? una proclamacio?n reconociendo el Di?a del A?rbol en su reunio?n regular el 1 de marzo. Luego del reconocimiento, la Ciudad y el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Santa Paula organizara?n una Ceremonia del Di?a del A?rbol en la Primaria Barbara Webster el 14 de marzo a las 10 :30 a.m. Se invita a la comunidad a asistir. Dos clases de quinto grado participara?n en la ceremonia y aprendera?n sobre los efectos positivos que los a?rboles pueden tener en los entornos urbanos.
Las festividades continuara?n el 18 de marzo con los talleres comunitarios del Di?a del A?rbol y el evento de entrega de a?rboles de 9 a. m. a 11 a. m. Siguiendo el tema “Planta un a?rbol, se? un he?roe”, este evento enfatizara? el compromiso de la Ciudad con hacer crecer el bosque urbano y mejorar la vida de los residentes de Santa Paula a trave?s de acciones significativas. El di?a comenzara? con un desayuno ligero, seguido de tres talleres:
- 9 a. m. – Planting Trees 101 presentado por America in Bloom
- 9:45 a. m. – Plagas de a?rboles y remedios caseros presentado por International Environmental Corporation Arborist
- 10:30 a. m. – Injerto de un a?rbol de coctel de frutas presentado por Brian’s Orchard Youth Alliance
Despue?s de los talleres, se llevara? a cabo un obsequio de a?rboles a las 11 a. m. Las especies de a?rboles disponibles para recoger incluyen limonero, ciruelo, jacaranda? enano y mirto crespo?n.
