SANTA PAULA — Art About Agriculture, the popular pastoral art show presented annually by the Ag Art Alliance, will mark its tenth anniversary this year with a fresh crop of 81 artworks at the Santa Paula Art Museum. In The Tenth Annual Art About Agriculture, 70 artists from across the country portray the beauty and bounty of agriculture in scenes ranging from fields, farmworkers and farmers markets to animals, barns and backroad vistas. All of the artworks on display will be for sale. The show opens with a premiere party on Saturday, November 11, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission to the premiere is $10.00 for museum members and $15.00 for non-members.
For the past ten years, photographer John Nichols and painter Gail Pidduck have curated the yearly display of agrarian-themed art. The idea for the show came from the pair’s shared reverence for local agriculture, and for the men and women who work the land. The theme continues to strike a chord with artists both locally and abroad. And while all of the artworks in the show can be appreciated solely for their beauty, the curators and artists point out that the art on exhibit is meant to tell many different stories about agriculture. Each piece is intended to start a dialogue between the artist, the subject matter and the viewer, in an effort to raise awareness of the important roles that art, artists, and agriculture play in our daily lives. The Tenth Annual Art About Agriculture is on view November 11, 2017 through February 25, 2018.
