SANTA BARBARA — The 16th annual Colloquium on Mexican Literature at UCSB: “Huellas del tiempo / Traces of time,” will be presented at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Mosher Alumni House (UCSB); 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8 at the Multicultural Center Theater (UCSB); and 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at Casa de la Guerra, 15 E. De la Guerra St., Santa Barbara.
As in previous years, the colloquium is organized by UCSB’s Department of Spanish and Portuguese and UC-Mexicanistas (Intercampus Research Program). Reading sessions, presentations of books published in 2013, and cultural activities related to the conference theme will be presented.
The conference will examine the connections of literature with other disciplines (when, for instance, a real or historical fact becomes fictionalized in literature) or with other media: radio (first cultural programs, first radio stations), television (first writers to appear on television, literary programs), cinema, photography, magazines, characters from the past, actors and actresses, testimonials of time, holidays, first tourist guides, advertisements, posters, illustration, digitalization, social networks, short texts (from telegrams to Twitter…). Writer Margo Glantz as will be a special guest.
