WASHINGTON, D.C. — The LNESC National Office would like to announce that the 2022 Washington Youth Leadership Seminar (WLYS) application is now available to qualified high school juniors and seniors!
The Washington Youth Leadership Seminar brings together 50+ aspiring high juniors and seniors from across the United States and Puerto Rico to focus on their own leadership development and encourage participants to apply these lessons back in their communities. Participants are referred by LNESC field offices and LULAC Councils to serve as representatives of their home states. During the event, students will attend a series of workshops to prepare them to be leaders within their communities. Workshops focus on leadership development, advocacy training, career exploration, and professional development. Traditionally, this event is hosted in Washington, DC, and includes advocacy visits on Capitol Hill.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the event will be held virtually that will include a forum with leaders in government, corporate, and non-profit organizations.

- The Washington Youth Leadership Seminar is completely free of charge to the selected students.
- Students who successfully complete the seminar by attending ALL workshops will be eligible to receive a $300 gift card.
To be considered for the program, students must meet the requirements below and submit the online application here by 6 pm ET on September 9.
- Must be sponsored by an LNESC Center or LULAC Council
- Must be an incoming high school junior or senior
- Must demonstrate high academic achievement and extracurricular involvement
- Must be actively involved in leadership and community activities
