¡Viva el Arte de Santa Barbara! to present Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán in free concerts from Sept. 20-22

SANTA BARBARA — ¡Viva el Arte de Santa Barbara! will kick off its ninth fall season of free family entertainment with Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán performing at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20 at Isla Vista School, 6875 El Colegio Road, Goleta, (805-893-5037); 4 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Guadalupe City Hall Auditorium, 918 Obispo St., Guadalupe, (805-343-2939); and 4 and 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 at the Marjorie Luke Theatre at Santa Barbara Jr. High, 721 E. Cota St., Santa Barbara, (805-884-4087, ext. 7).

The 16-member group from Guadalajara, in the Mexican state of Jalisco, was founded in 1965 by brothers Fernando and Pepe Martinez and is now led by their sons and nephews. Playing traditional style, Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán has toured the world, appearing in concerts and major festivals including Mariachi USA at the Hollywood Bowl; San Jose, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and the famous “Encuentro internacional del mariachi y la charreria” in Guadalajara.

¡Viva el Arte de Santa Barbara! will then present Los Vega (Oct. 18-20), La Santa Cecilia (Jan. 10-12, 2014), Perla Batalla (Feb. 7-9, 2014) and Plena Libre (March 21-23, 2014).
