¡Viva el Arte de Santa Barbara! opened its fall season with the free musical performance by Entre Mujeres, held Sept. 20-23 in various locations in Santa Barbara County.
The performers, members of other Latino musical bands, presented their final performance on Sept. 23 at the Marjorie Luke Theatre at Santa Barbara Jr. High School.
Entre Mujeres combined the voices of women from Mexico, Canada and the United States in Son Jarocho, the music of Veracruz, Mexico. The Entre Mujeres project is an extension of the informal network of Fandango sin Fronteres, led by Martha Gonzalez, singer/songwriter for Quetzal, who collaborated with Laura Rebolloso, co-founder of Son de Madera. Among the performers were Oxnard native and violinist Rocio Marron, who has peformed with Marc Anthony and the Red Hot Chili Peppers; Wendy Caro Romero of Los Utrera; Kali Niño of Café Con Pan, Nikki Campbell and La Marsoul, lead singer for La Santa Cecilia.
¡Viva el Arte de Santa Barbara! will next present Guadalajara-based Troker at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12 at Isla Vista School, 6875 El Colegio Road, Goleta (805-893-5037); at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Guadalupe Salad Bowl Festival and at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at Guadalupe City Hall, 918 Obispo St., Guadalupe (805-343-2939); and 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Marjorie Luke Theatre at Santa Barbara Jr. High School, 721 E. Cota St., Santa Barbara (805-884-4087, ext. 7).
Troker makes a special appearance co-presented by the California Lemon Festival at 1:30 pm on Sunday, Oct. 14 in Girsh Park in Goleta. Troker breaks all molds of Mexican pop-culture, mixing jazz, funk, pop, rock and dance music with superb musicianship and a blast of Mexican attitude, ¡Viva el Arte de Santa Barbara! reported.
