OXNARD — Oxnard Restaurant Week is an event put on by Visit Oxnard each January during California Restaurant Month. Typically, the organization works with local restaurants to create a citywide dining program, attracting diners to try menu items at reduced prices. Last year, the organization changed it up by instead creating the Oxnard Taco Trail. This year, Visit Oxnard is getting even more creative.
Given the current California public health order limiting restaurants to takeout, Visit Oxnard is partnering with radio personalities Rico & Mambo on the “Guys Gotta Eat” challenge to ask residents to forego cooking at home for the week – to please order takeout and support Oxnard restaurants.
Oxnard Restaurant Week will run from January 18th thru January 24th. Each day, Visit Oxnard will post the following challenges to its Instagram feed:
• Monday, Jan 18 – Drinks To-Go: Cocktails, Mocktails, Boba, Smoothies, Coffee, Beer, Wine – As long as it’s from an Oxnard restaurant.
• Tuesday, Jan 19 – Food from a Latin Country: Brazilian, Mexican, Spanish, Peruvian, Cuban – Show us what’s out there.
• Wednesday, Jan 20 – Wild Card Wednesday: Any location in Oxnard – Riverpark, Downtown, Beaches/Harbor, South Oxnard – anywhere! Just has to be Oxnard.
• Thursday, Jan 21 – Asian Food: Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Indian, etc. – it’s a big continent!
• Friday, Jan 22 – European Food: Italian, Mediterranean, French – anything from the continent of Europe!
• Saturday, Jan 23 – Seafood Saturday: Fish, crab, lobster, mussels – if it lives in the ocean, it probably counts!
• Sunday, Jan 24 – Breakfast/Brunch & American: Eggs & bacon, sandwiches, acai bowls, BBQ, burgers, steak – so many options!
To enter, snap a photo of your takeout and post to Instagram. Tag @visitoxnardca, @ricoandmambo and the restaurant where you ordered takeout – each Oxnard restaurant purchase earns you one entry toward $500 in Oxnard restaurant gift cards, courtesy of Visit Oxnard. Meet all 7 days of challenges for 20 entries.
Rico & Mambo will be running promotions for the weeklong event on Q95.9 FM and promoting the event on social media. “You know, we all gotta eat. So why not eat out?” say the duo. “We’re supporting Oxnard restaurants, and we want you to do the same during Oxnard Restaurant Week,” they continue. Rico & Mambo also recorded an advertisement with Visit Oxnard to get the word out.
“The Takeout Challenge is a safe way to support Oxnard restaurants and showcase our local businesses online,” said Ashley Golden, City of Oxnard Assistant City Manager. “We look forward to the virtual celebration on social media of the great food and drinks crafted in Oxnard.”
Visit Oxnard encourages residents to help Oxnard restaurants make it through the shutdown by ordering takeout as much as possible during Oxnard Restaurant Week and beyond.
