NEWBURY PARK — To celebrate National Olympic Day, Victory Gymnastics Academy will host an open house for families and children interested in learning first-hand about the sport of gymnastics. The free event takes place June 23, 5:15 – 7 p.m., 2330 Teller Road, Newbury Park and will offer a variety of activities for children of all ages, Olympic-style gymnastic performances and the chance to meet an Olympic silver medalist.

“The Olympics are such an exciting time and show the athleticism and grace of gymnastics. We want to offer the community a taste of the Olympics and hopefully inspire some youngsters to give the sport a try. Maybe a medalist in the 2024 Olympics—hopefully in Los Angeles—will have had their start at our event,” said Howard Laguna, Victory Gymnastics CEO.

Older children are invited to try the gym’s equipment—balance beams, foam pit, tumbling, trampolines, bars, horse and mats— the same as what will be used in the Olympic Games this summer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Younger children and toddlers can explore smaller equipment. Victory’s 17 coaches will be on hand to guide and supervise all activities.

Guests will have the opportunity to meet Jason Jian, a 1996 Olympic silver medal winner and Victory Gymnastics Academy coach, and watch Olympic-style demonstrations by Victory’s elite competitive teams. There will also be free pizza, refreshments and raffles.

Victory Gymnastics Academy offers basic, intermediate, advanced and competitive classes to children 2 years old and above. While a majority of classes are recreational, Victory’s master competitive teams have qualified and placed in Junior Olympics as well as regional and state competitions.
