Ventura Housing invites Ventura County artists to create public art for new affordable housing community

VENTURA — Ventura Housing is inviting Ventura County artists to help bring beauty and meaning to its affordable housing community, Valentine Road Apartments.

As part of its commitment to integrating art into community spaces, Ventura Housing seeks artworks that inspire, uplift, and reflect the voices of residents. This project reflects Ventura Housing’s belief that art is an essential part of what makes a home. By bringing creativity and color into shared spaces, the Valentine Road public art initiative aims to spark pride, connection, and healing among residents.

Project Details:

·  Locations: Opportunities include the interior courtyard, bell tower, community garden wall, entrance lobby, and bike room exterior wall.

·  Budget: $70,000 (inclusive of design, installation, and materials). Ventura Housing will be responsible for wall prep, permitting fees, and project management costs.

·  Eligibility: Professional artists 18 years of age and older. Artist teams may apply and must designate one artist as the lead contact. Artists must reside in Ventura County.

· Submission: All materials must be compiled into a single PDF and emailed to sindelarartconsulting@gmail.com. A community-based review committee will evaluate each applicant’s proposal and will submit the top applications to Ventura Housing for consideration. Key Dates:

·   Deadline for Submissions: November 14, 2025

·   Design Review: January 2026

·   Installation: January–April 2026

·   Community Unveiling: May 2026

Why it matters:

·       As of January 22, 2025, the Ventura County Continuum of Care identified 1,990 individuals experiencing homelessness

·       Of that number, 1,274 are considered unsheltered

·       Valentine Road provides 134 affordable apartments and 2 manager apartments for individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness
