CAMARILLO — Representatives of hospitals, health systems and the Public Health Department will present a “state of Ventura County’s health” during the “Public Health and Hospital Needs Assessment Findings” session at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 29 at the VCCF Nonprofit Center in Camarillo.
The free presentation is part of the Ventura County Community Foundation’s Community Leadership Series. The panelists will present key findings of their latest federal- and state-mandated Community Health Needs Assessment Reports and then engage in a discussion led by nonprofit consultant Jill Fioravanti, who assisted in Kaiser Permanente’s Ventura County assessment. A question-and-answer session will follow.
Panelists include Jennifer Lopez, community benefit manager for Kaiser Permanente; Rigoberto Vargas, director of Ventura County Public Health; Ron Hyrchuk, director spiritual care services, Simi Valley Hospital; George West, vice president for mission integration for St. John’s Hospitals; and Wilfred Garand, vice president of planning and managed care at Community Memorial Health System.
“This presentation is a perfect example of VCCF’s commitment to providing decision makers, donors and voters with reliable, non-partisan information to help make more effective use of the resources available to improve well-being in Ventura County,” said Hugh Ralston, VCCF president and CEO. “This is a rare opportunity to hear the findings from several health-care organizations in one session.”
The recent passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act — more commonly known as Obamacare — mandates tax-exempt hospitals to conduct a Community Health Needs Assessment and develop an implementation strategy every three years. These assessments take into consideration the socio-economic challenges and benefits in the hospital’s service area and are used to determine how the hospital will address unmet community needs through the delivery of health services.
Led by local experts, the VCCF Community Leadership Series is a monthly gathering designed to foster communication among community stakeholders, policymakers and thought leaders, focusing on opportunities for philanthropy.
The event runs 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the VCCF Nonprofit Center, 4001 Mission Oaks Blvd., next door to the Camarillo Ranch House.
Admission is free and includes lunch, but guests must RSVP at http://2014cls.eventbrite.com.
