THOUSAND OAKS — The Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) plan to conduct a prescribed burn in Adams Canyon, north of Santa Paula, on March 4, 2025, weather permitting. This controlled burn is part of ongoing efforts to improve ecosystem health and reduce wildfire risk. This prescribed burn was initially scheduled for November 18-21, 2024.
Adams Canyon is located north of Santa Paula, south of Thomas Aquinas College, and west of Steckel Park. Firefighters will utilize hand-ignition techniques to carefully burn between 15 and 150 acres. A small test burn will be conducted beforehand to confirm optimal conditions before proceeding with the full burn.
Operations will begin with a briefing at 8:00 a.m., with ignition expected to start at 9:00 a.m. The burn is anticipated to conclude by 4:00 p.m. Prescribed burns are only conducted under favorable conditions to ensure safety and effectiveness.
Upper Ojai, Santa Paula, and Fillmore residents may notice smoke in the area. VCFD is working closely with the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District to monitor and address any air quality concerns.
