Greetings! A new year has begun, and though we collectively find ourselves facing new challenges and closures due to the pandemic, there are still many arts opportunities to enjoy in our community. Legal Issues for Artists: Protecting Your Works from the Moment of Creation and Beyond
The Museum of Ventura County and the Ventura County Bar Association invite artists of all media, at all stages of their career, to attend this informational panel, free, live via Zoom.

Disaster Preparedness Certificated Programs for Performing Arts Organizations
Santa Barbara County Arts Ready, a network of performing arts venues dedicated to ensuring safe public spaces, and the Performing Arts Readiness project are offering free webinar courses to performing arts organizations in disaster preparedness basics, including natural disasters, security, pandemic response and recovery, and more.

LOCAL ARTS NEWS:
Rubicon Theatre Receives Biggest Donation in Its History for Artist Housing & Future Legacy
Congratulations to the Rubicon Theatre Company, which recently announced that it has received a gift totaling $2.3 million–the largest donation in its history–from Karyn Jackson of Arcadia, a former Ventura resident; her sister Nancy Allen of Ventura; and Nancy Allen’s husband, Leo Allen.
Through the generosity of the Jackson/Allen family, Rubicon has purchased a four-unit property on Poli Street in Ventura, which will be used to house visiting artists near the theatre, and it will name its historic venue at Main and Laurel in Downtown Ventura’s Cultural District, “Rubicon Theatre Company at The Karyn Jackson Theatre.” The Poli visiting artist property will be named in Nancy Allen’s honor.

Mexican Consulate Exhibit: CEMPOHUALLI & Mexican Prints from the Collection of Gil & Marti García – FREE!
Last call! The Oxnard Performing Arts Center has co-curated and is presenting two art exhibitions at the Mexican Consulate in Oxnard that are on view now through January 31. They bring visitors closer to the giants of Mexican Art, including: Leopoldo Mendez, Rufino Tamayo, Clemente Orozco, Francisco Toledo, Jose Luis Cuevas and Fanny Rabel through an incredible collection of Mexican prints from Gil García and Marti Correa de García.
The exhibition is complemented by the contemporary art work of the renowned Mexican artist Rafael Perea de la Cabada. From images of the Mexican Revolution and agricultural life to abstract works, these exhibits immerse visitors in the diversity and depth that is Mexican culture.

Art Show & Reception featuring Robert Wassell at
Fox Fine Jewelry – FREE!
Enjoy the latest collection of captivating landscapes of Ventura’s local wilderness by local artist Robert Wassell at Fox Fine Jewelry.
An artist reception will be held this Saturday, January 15, 5-7 p.m., where you can enjoy hors d’oeuvres and light refreshments, and meet the artist. Wassell’s work will be showing until April 17.
Robert Wassell’s oil paintings bring back memories of refreshing, simple days. His paintings are easy to absorb and relatable, your eye brushing over his landscapes. One views a Wassell painting as a whole. His great detail only becomes apparent when one stops viewing and begins studying. Wassell’s art is meant to transport you to a place you remember, or wish for.

Calling all arts workers, culture bearers and arts leaders in Central California! Californians for the Arts Regional Conversations are coming to Central California via Zoom on Wednesday, Feb 2nd. This virtual gathering is our opportunity to connect, to get the latest news on resources and Federal and State arts policies, to collaborate on local priorities and to strengthen advocacy in our region. It is also a chance to share our needs with Californians for the Arts, so they can better serve us and unify our statewide voice for the arts. Register now and help spread the word!
