VENTURA COUNTY — Ventura County Animal Services has received approval from Dr. Levin, Ventura County Public Health Officer, to reinstate pet adoptions on a limited basis at the Camarillo Animal Shelter. This authorization applies only to pet adoptions — all other COVID-19 restrictions are still in effect. All adoptions will be conducted by appointment only and the shelter still remains closed to the public for casual visitation.
On Saturday, May 2nd at 10:00am, VCAS will activate their online scheduling system for Adoption Counseling appointments and will begin scheduling these sessions starting Sunday, May 3rd.
Those interested in adopting an animal are encouraged to view shelter animals online at www.vcas.us/pets, then schedule a virtual telephone “Adoption Counseling Session” at www.vcas.us/scheduling which opens on Saturday at 10:00am. An Adoption Counselor will call back the interested party at the scheduled time or earlier to fully discuss the animal. If all parties feel a good match will likely be made, shelter personnel will schedule a time to meet the animal in-person at the Camarillo Animal Shelter. VCAS is only allowing two (2) members of a family to come to interact with an animal. Both individuals must be under the age of 65 and not medically compromised.
If, at the conclusion of the meet and greet, all parties feel a good match has been made and the family wishes to adopt, the family must be prepared to take ownership of the animal that day. VCAS is unable to place a “hold” on shelter pets.
At this time, pet adoptions are on a first come, first served basis. Shelter personnel will inform prospective adopters if there are other interested parties before scheduling an in-person visit with the animal. All Ventura County Animal Services personnel will be donning PPE and maintaining a 6-foot distance in compliance with our county’s social distancing guidelines. Although members of the public are not required to wear PPE, it is highly recommended.
VCAS would like to thank our community for their patience and understanding during these difficult times. Please continue to follow all recommendations, restrictions and guidelines set forth by county officials. For these guidelines, and all other COVID-19 updates, please visit www.VCEmergency.com.
