7th Annual Homeownership Fair, June 1, 2019
Here at VCCDC, we believe that home is the cornerstone of any individual and family’s economic, environmental and social well-being. It’s no surprise that Ventura County is one of the most expensive markets for homeownership in the US. Nearly 50% of households are unable to afford the cost of housing. VCCDC continues to play a critical role in addressing this crisis in our community by creating pathways to affordable homeownership opportunities and financial stability.
Our 7th Annual Homeownership Fair: “Opening New Doors” taking place on Saturday, June 1st, 2019. This unique community-based event will provide local families with valuable information about the benefits of homeownership and give our community the opportunity to access badly needed resources ranging from disaster preparedness, small business assistance, health, nutrition, banking, home insurance, home maintenance, child care, disaster relief and other areas of current need. Current homeowners can obtain information on home maintenance and mortgage assistance programs. Attendees will receive all of this valuable information at no cost in a fun and family oriented setting.
VCCDC’s Homeownership Fair is the perfect opportunity to showcase your organization and how it works to improve quality of life for people in our community.

Spotlight on our Staff
Peggy Lytle, Loan Processor
We are delighted to welcome Peggy as a new Loan Processor to VCCDC! To get to know her a little, we asked her a few questions and here is what she said…
Q: How did you join the team here at VCCDC?
A: I came to VCCDC because I’d heard such great things about the organization. I’ve known Alex Vega for a long time so when I saw there was an opportunity – I took it!
Q: What do you like about VCCDC?
A: VCCDC really does help people move into their own homes. It is an amazing organization with great programs to help people’s dreams come true, like the down payment assistance program. More than that I love how they care of people every step of the way!
Q: What’s your favorite food?
A: Oh that’s a hard one…(pause for a minute)…my favorite food is spaghetti pomodoro.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: I have a lot of animals. At one time I had 17 rescued cats, but now I’m down to 7 with the others in great homes now. I’m always rescuing cats and I have one rescued pitbull. They come from abusive situations so I give them a loving home and hopefully get them to trust people again so they can find a new home.
Welcome to the team, Peggy!

News & Announcements
Housing California – April 15-17, 2019
“We need to fundamentally transform the way we deliver housing in this country. We need to change the systems.” – Dr Tiffany Manuel
Last week our Executive Director, Bertha Garcia, and Homeownership Manager, Felipe Flores, attended the Housing California Conference in Sacramento. This year’s conference focused on envisioning a future California where no one is homeless and everyone can afford a safe, stable place to call home in a healthy, vibrant, and prosperous community. We learned that CA has the world’s 5th largest economy and yet it is 3rd worse in housing. We came away inspired and ready to get to work on the solution.
“Now is the time to roll up our sleeves and get to work on the California we all want to see.” – Lisa Hershey, HousingCA Executive Director
Banker CRA Roundtable – April 11, 2019
Our Director of Lending, Alex Vega, presented at the Southern California Banker CRA Roundtable on April 11, 2019. VCCDC was invited to talk about the great work we do in our community to an audience of about 110 bankers from National and International Banks that have branches in Southern California. Alex Vega also participated on a Regional Community Development Impact panel moderated by Mary Duran from the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
