VENTURA COUNTY — The Ventura County Community Development Corporation (VCCDC) was recently awarded a $35,000 grant by Wells Fargo to support its Mi Casa Mi Hogar (My House My Home) Program which is designed to assist a highly vulnerable population – women who are the primary wage earners for their families.
Alhough the primary target population is women, any resident interested in increasing his/her financial capability will be welcomed into the program. By the end of the program year participants will demonstrate increased financial capability and financial health evidenced by a participant’s established Financial Wellness Plan which will lead to improvements in credit scores, increased or established savings, and/or reduced debt.
“At the heart of our work is to help families gain control over their finances and achieve financial security, especially those who are underserved and have limited information or resources. Throughout its 15-year history, VCCDC has become a leader in the region, growing in response to community need and market opportunities, and providing high quality services aligned with best practices in the industry. However, it is only in partnership with our supporters like Wells Fargo that VCCDC has been able to accomplish its mission” says VCCDC Executive Director, Bertha Garcia.
With the support of Wells Fargo over the past 15 years, VCCDC has been able to provide homeownership education and counseling services to over 9,000 local families. In addition to financial support, VCCDC is grateful to have Gabriella Mello, Vice President of Wells Fargo’s Government and Community Relations Group, as part of the Advisory Board. Her knowledge and expertise in the community development field and Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) field are an asset to VCCDC.
