Nonprofit to provide rapid re-housing assistance for City of Oxnard clients experiencing homelessness
VENTURA — United Way of Ventura County has officially launched its new Forward Home Program in partnership with the City of Oxnard, which assists City of Oxnard clients experiencing homelessness in successfully transitioning to stable housing.
UWVC provides a variety of services via the Forward Home Program, including collaborating with case managers as well as assisting clients in gathering and obtaining necessary documents, receiving credit counseling, applying for housing voucher programs, accessing additional community resources, and more.
“This new program allows us to better support clients through the early phases of the housing process,” said Mitchel Sloan, UWVC’s interim president and CEO. “We are able to bridge the gap between the first steps away from homelessness and the final steps into a home. Finding a home is increasingly challenging given our community’s housing crisis.”
In addition to the Forward Home Program, UWVC offers the Landlord Engagement Program, which provides housing location services, housing navigation, bridge sheltering, and housing retention case management to ensure permanent and stable housing. Since the LEP’s inception in December 2019, 91 househoulds have been permanently housed with a more than 95% housing retention success rate. The LEP will provide additional support for Forward Home Program clients.
UWVC is continually seeking property owners who want to be a part of the solution to preventing and ending homelessness.
