10TH ANNUAL STUFF THE BUS | ||
In July, 39 volunteers filled 1,067 backpacks with essential school supplies for K-12 students. The backpacks were distributed to 30 agencies serving communities in need throughout Ventura County.
Thank you to our generous 2019 Stuff the Bus supporters: CBC Federal Credit Union and Johnson Family Dental.
Special appreciation to the 50 collection sites–hosted by libraries, businesses, and community partners–and to our transportation providers, which included UPS, Enterprise, Meathead Movers, and RoadRunner Shuttle.
Your support not only provides essential school supplies, but also promotes learning, building self-esteem, and ensuring that our youth begin the school year ready to learn!

VITA FREE TAX PREPARATION RESULTS |
||
Thank you to the more than 80 volunteer tax preparers and intake specialists at 9 sites who supported the 2019 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.
Collectively, they prepared 1,902 state and federal income tax returns and generated more than $2.8 million into the Ventura County economy, including over $1 million in the Earned Income Tax Credit, the nation’s most effective anti-poverty program. It is estimated that this year’s VITA program saved local tax filers more than $284,000 in tax preparation fees, providing households with vital funds for basic needs such as food and rent. The VITA program is a collaborative led by United Way of Ventura County, the County of Ventura Human Services Agency, and the IRS with site partners: Moorpark College, Many Mansion’s Hillcrest Villas, California Lutheran University (Oxnard Campus), the Housing Authorities of Oxnard and Ventura, Ventura College (Santa Paula Campus), and the Human Services Agency’s Ventura Community Services Center and the County of Ventura America’s Job Centers (East & West).
Volunteer recruitment for tax year 2019 is now underway. Please check out our volunteer opportunities and consider joining our VITA team.
