Dear Friend of United Way,
You may not know me or my family, but we now know your compassion generosity, and we appreciate you more than you can possibly know.
Last week, I took my two young sons to see what was left of our home after the Thomas Fire ravaged our beautiful Santa Paula community. You’d think the ruins of that scene would have broken me, but it didn’t, at least not entirely. It didn’t because ever since that day, I been so busy thanking all of the wonderful agencies, faith-based leaders, and everyday angels who have embraced my family in our time of need.
United Way’s gift of $500 to my family to help my family with our immediate needs came right when we needed it most. That generosity multiplied like I could never have imagined. Soon after, a local church in Thousand Oaks provided us with another $750. Next, an anonymous hotel owner agreed to house our family of five for the next 30 days. Last night, we slept soundly and safely and, for the first time since our home was destroyed, we feel a sense of hope for our family.
I don’t know how I’ll ever repay United Way and this community for their generosity. What I do know is United Way helped save my family. I can say with confidence that when you renew your annual gift to United Way, you are supporting an amazing 72-year old philanthropic organization that mobilizes the caring power of our community like no other when we need it most. We are Ventura County, we are
strong and we are united.
In gratitude,
The Vasquez Family
