OXNARD — The 21st annual Cesar E. Chavez March for Justice — “Overtime for Farm Workers Now!” will be held Sunday, April 10.
Marchers will gather at 9 a.m. at Cesar Chavez Elementary School, 300 N. Juanita St., Oxnard, with the march beginning at 10 a.m.
The march will take participants around La Colonia neighborhood before ending behind the school where the post-march celebration will begin.
The rally for farm worker’s overtime wages will begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by live entertainment at 1 p.m.
Cesar Chavez has a special connection to Ventura County, because he lived in Oxnard as a child and returned as an adult to organize protests and boycotts to secure better wages and working conditions for farm workers, the City of Oxnard reported in a media release. He attracted the attention and cooperation of people from all walks of life in the U.S. and Europe. His accomplishments are a testament to the power of one individual to make a difference.
The march is presented by the United Farm Workers of America, Clinicas del Camino Real Inc., MICOP and the Central Coast Alliance for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE).
