The Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) at UC Santa Barbara will hold a series of UC Success Night events April 19-28 to celebrate the academic success of seniors from UCSB’s EAOP partnership schools who have been admitted to the UC system.

UC-admitted seniors and their families from Fillmore, Rio Mesa, South, Carpinteria and Channel Islands high schools as well as those from the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District are invited to attend their respective school’s event.

The program includes a presentation of awards and of State Proclamations from local Senate and Assembly members in recognition of students’ academic achievement, and student keynote speeches will be delivered in both English and Spanish. Attendees also will have the opportunity to meet UCSB faculty and staff members, administrators, alumni and undergraduate students, as well as network with other students and families from their hometown who may be attending the same universities in the fall.

“This is one of my favorite events because it really showcases how four years of dedication and hard work can really payoff for those students and their families that have done the right things, worked hard, and poured their hearts into making their educational dreams come true,” said Britt Ortiz, EAOP director. “UC Success Night is about celebrating the payoff for that hard work our EAOP students have put in during their high school career.  We are able to recognize not only the students but also their family members, which makes for a holistic celebration of family and school wide success.

“Several of our sites will have more than one student admitted to the same campus,” Ortiz continued. “This year a few of our high schools set new records for the number of students admitted to any one UC campus. We’re really proud of these sites and students doing the hard work to have so many students admitted to just one UC campus.”

The first of six UC Success Night events will honor Fillmore High School students Wednesday, April 19, at 6 p.m. at El Pescador Restaurant, 1305 W. Ventura St. The Rio Mesa High School event will follow Thursday, April 20 at 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
