The associate professor, an expert in energy, climate and environmental politics, was recognized for her exceptional contributions and public engagement.
With a coastal location and unique microclimate providing natural defenses against wildfires, the university also has emergency protocols and infrastructure in place to address potential threats.
One of only 11 people to receive the award, the materials scientist will receive up to $3 million over five years to pursue his proposal, an outgrowth of work he has been pursuing for some 15 years.
