SANTA BARBARA — The UCSB Multicultural Center’s Cup of Culture Film screening of “Cartel Land” will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 at the UCSB Multicultural Center, UCSB.
Hailed by The New York Times as “urgent and unnerving,” “Cartel Land” is a chilling meditation on the breakdown of order, organizers reported in a media release. Jose Mireles, a Michoacán physician known as “El Doctor,” leads the Autodefensas, a citizen uprising against the Knights Templar drug cartel that has wreaked havoc on the region.
Across the border, U.S. vet Tim “Nailer” Foley heads Arizona Border Recon, a paramilitary group determined to keep cartel activity out of the U.S. 98 minutes, English and Spanish with subtitles. Visit http://mcc.sa.ucsb.edu/events/fall-2015 for more information.
