SANTA BARBARA — The UC Santa Barbara Gevirtz Graduate School of Education held its 2025 Fellowship Breakfast on January 24 to celebrate the school’s most promising graduate students who have received fellowships and the community supporting them.
Fellowships are made possible through generous private foundations and individual donors who have contributed to 26 funds that provide annual support to Gevirtz School students. Fellowships were awarded to 52 students, with funds totaling over $255,000.
One of the newest fellowships is the Community Fellows Fund, a partnership between the Gevirtz School, Santa Barbara Unified School District and philanthropic investors. The Community Fellows Fund offers full fellowships to recruit and support local, highly qualified, first-generation and bilingual students who want to teach in their home community of Santa Barbara. This fund covers all costs of the fellows’ teacher education experience.
“The support that we receive for our students and the research, teaching, and service that we do in our community is incredibly important, and even more so now with the change in our nation’s leadership,” said Jeffrey Milem, the Dean of the Gevirtz School. “All of us at the Gevirtz School remain steadfast in our commitment to continue the work we do and to support each and every one of our students.”
