Palestinian-American writer Naomi Shihab Nye is a self-described “wandering poet” whose work over more than five decades has earned her numerous honors, including the 2024 Wallace Stevens Award for lifetime achievement from the Academy of American Poets.

A lifetime conservationist and rewilding advocate reports on progress made and challenges faced by large scale rewilding projects such as those she has initiated in Chile and Argentina


UCSB Arts & Lectures presents Kristine McDivitt Tompkins: Rewilding on Continental Scale on Thursday, February 12 at 7:30 pm at UCSB Campbell Hall. The co-founder of Tompkins Conservation and former CEO of Patagonia, Kristine McDivitt Tompkins has dedicated her life to preserving wild beauty and biodiversity by creating national parks and restoring wildlife. In this talk, Tompkins reports on progress made and challenges faced by large scale rewilding projects such as those she has initiated in Chile and Argentina.

Now, the Emmy-nominated host of PBS’ America Outdoors explores opportunities for climate-concerned individuals to take meaningful community-driven action.

UCSB Arts & Lectures presents Facing the Falls screening and Q&A with the filmmakers on Tuesday, March 11 at 7:30 pm at UCSB Campbell Hall. Executive produced by Hillary Clinton and Chelsea Clinton, Facing the Falls tells how international disability rights advocate Cara Yar Khan made a daring 12-day journey through the Grand Canyon to shed light on the stigmas created by ableism. Co-produced by UCSB’s Wendy Eley Jackson.
