WESTLAKE VILLAGE — The welcomed rainfall in 2023 shored up Triunfo Water & Sanitation District’s supply and put the district on a solid foundation for 2024.
60th Anniversary
The rainy weather helped celebrate TWSD’s 60th anniversary in 2023. The rain prompted TWSD to rescind its Stage 1 Water Shortage restrictions implemented because of the drought, although permanent water restrictions remain in place.
“Last year’s storm events brought a very different picture to our ongoing drought status,” says Jane Nye, TWSD 2023 board chair. “Unprecedented winter storms replenished water supplies throughout the state, and we hope that this year will deliver the same.”
In 2023, TWSD received the award for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association in recognition of TWSD’s efforts to prepare its financial reports in the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.
Pure Water Project
The Las Virgenes-Triunfo Joint Powers Authority’s Pure Water Project is a pioneer in the state, using a process of reservoir water augmentation. In addition, the Pure Water Project Demonstration Facility uses a three-step process–ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis and ultraviolet light/advanced oxidation–to purify the water beyond even state drinking water standards. Public tours of the Pure Water Demonstration Facility including water tastings are available. To sign up, go to https://www.ourpureh2o.com/home. The construction of the Advanced Water Purification facility is scheduled to begin in 2025.
“Our goal at Triunfo is to provide additional resources for water supply reliability for our customers and the Pure Water Project is a major step in fulfilling this goal,” says Janna Orkney 2024 TWSD board chair.
Infrastructure Improvements
TWSD gets its potable water from wholesaler Calleguas Municipal Water District. In 2023, work continued to interconnect piping between Calleguas and Las Virgenes Municipal Water District to improve the reliability of local water systems. Most of the work is taking place along Lindero Canyon Road in Oak Park. The project is scheduled to be completed by early summer.
TWSD continues to take steps to maintain the wastewater infrastructure to ensure that water is conveyed safely.
Financial Assistance To Triunfo Customers
TWSD was once again able to offer discounts on water and sewer services in 2023. These same discounts are available to eligible households in 2024. In early 2024, the TWSD board voted to make these programs permanent and ongoing. Applications are on the TWSD website.
Water Smart Classes
Triunfo Water & Sanitation District offered six free Water Smart classes in 2023 covering drought-tolerant gardening, drip irrigation systems, lawn replacement, fire and water-wise landscaping and growing California natives. More classes are on their way for 2024 beginning in March. To suggest a class topic, fill out a survey at https://www.triunfowsd.com/water-smart-classes.
